"Enjoy yourselves by all means, but NOT at the cost of the environment": this is the philosophy behind the completely new connecting routes thanks to which the Lagazuoi 5 Torri ski area is finding itself at the hub of all the skiing areas of the Ladin valleys. Skiers can now ski in the heart of the Eastern Dolomites utilising exclusively slopes, ski lifts and ski buses.
Now the Giau and the 5 Torri are more easily reachable from the Upper Badia valley and from the Pusteria and Gardena valleys; the time it takes to complete the Great War Ski Run in an anticlockwise direction has been reduced by around 40 minutes, making the run easier and more relaxing.
All this has been made possible thanks to the new Croda Negra two-seater chair lift ( 420 metres long) which links the Forcella Croda Negra (the Croda Negra pass) to the slope of the Fedare (Passo Giau). On the north side of the Forcella Negra, thanks to the new "Averau Troi" ski track, the slopes of the Col Gallina and the Falzarego Pass can be reached. The new slope offers a view of incredible beauty over the Tofane and the Sasso di Stria, and the new circuit winds around Monte Averau, one of the loveliest of the mountains of the Lagazuoi 5 Torri area, with refuges that are mentioned in the good food guides of half of Europe .
This new connecting route has eliminated the ski bus service between Bai de Dones (start of the 5 Torri chair lift) and the Falzarego, since the pass is now reachable on skis and ski lifts. This means less car traffic and smog, and cleaner air and more tranquillity. The new ski lift means a reduction of 60 tonnes of carbon dioxide per season!
