Magical Giau Pass - circular snowshoe hike to the Fedare Refuge

A circular one-hour snowshoe hiking tour, suitable for everyone, on pristine snow-covered paths in the magnificent backdrop of the Giau Alpine Pass at the foot of Mt. Averau.
The path follows the route of the Ciasparun, a popular snowshoe race now in its 10th edition, that every year attracts many fans of this magical lunar landscape.

The starting point is the Fedare refuge at an altitude of 2000 m, a terrace overlooking the Giau Pass and Mt. Civetta. This refuge is also very popular thanks to the natural local cuisine of Ivan Troi and his mother Anna. The homemade cakes are excellent, the Martina cake with macaroons, ricotta and almonds is one of the favoured desserts.
First, follow the path that leads to the Melei district. Then you reach the Lavoi district on a groomed trail. This is the highest point of the route at 2,250 m.


After enjoying the panoramic balcony on the most fascinating peaks of the eastern Dolomites: Civetta - Col di Lana - Marmolada - Antelao - Boè - Pelmo - Sassongher - Sorapis, you return to the starting point on the way there. The descent begins in Lavoi. Towards the end, you skirt the last section of the ski slope and thus return to the Fedare refuge.
