Historical re-enactment at Averau refuge
The day of re-enactment of the events that shook the Dolomites during the First World War and beyond takes place again reproducing the horrors of history
The reenactors of the group Welschtiroler Historische Vereinigung recreate the historical events with uniforms, guns, installations and even a field cannon.
The Welschtiroler Historische Vereinigung is a free amateur association of historical re-enactment established to recall the civil and military vicissitudes of South Tyrol in the period 1511-1918. They are professionals who collaborate with the film industry and participate in historical re-enactment events in Italy and Europe. The group has a rich set of uniforms and materials, including a field kitchen, traction and draft animals, cannons and guns, that are perfect reproductions of the originals. This offers the public the possibility to touch, evaluating the weight and consistency of materials that usually can only be seen in photographs or are protected by glass cases.
To make the representation even more truthful, at lunchtime the "military ration" will be served in mess tins; moreover, those who wish can have a “war coffee”, made with dried figs.
The event is organized by the Siorpaes family of the Averau Refuge to enhance the history of the Lagazuoi - 5 Torri area between the Giau and Falzarego passes where today stretches the largest WW1 open-air museum in the Dolomites.
