On Sunday, 2 August, the Averau Refuge will host a historical re-enactment of the events that devastated the Dolomites during the First World War. The initiative, organised by the Siorpaes family, aims to highlight the history of the Lagazuoi 5 Torri Sasso di Stria area, situated between the Giau and Falzarego passes. This region is home to the largest open-air museum of the Great War in the Dolomites.
Guiding the journey through history will be members of the Welschtiroler Historische Vereinigung, a voluntary amateur association established to commemorate the civil and military events in South Tyrol between 1511 and 1918. These professionals collaborate regularly with the film industry and participate in events throughout Italy and Europe.
The group will provide a comprehensive set of uniforms, materials, pack animals, and draft animals, as well as cannons and rifles that are exact reproductions of the period. It will be an opportunity to immerse yourself in the atmosphere of that difficult period and to experience firsthand exhibits that are normally only seen in photographs or protected by display cases.
