Under the Gold sky of Averau: astronomy events

Astronomy events are returning to Rifugio Averau, offering guided observations under one of Italy’s most beautiful skies.

Rifugio Averau, situated at an altitude of 2,416 metres, is hosting a double event on the weekend of 24th and 25th July, dedicated to exploring the night sky, organised in collaboration with experts from Astronomitaly.
For several years now, the Refuge has held the "Gold" certification in the "I cieli più belli d'Italia" project. This award recognises locations with low light pollution, offering optimal conditions for observing celestial bodies.
The evenings of Friday 24th and Saturday 25th July will be dedicated to nighttime observation. From 8:30 pm, two professionals from Astronomitaly will guide attendees in using professional telescopes. The programme will focus on the Moon and key features of the summer sky, including the stars of the "Summer Triangle" (Vega, Deneb, and Altair), double stars like Mizar and Albireo, and the Hercules globular cluster. Participation in the stargazing activity is included with dinner (à la carte service) for a cover charge of €15.00, which covers the technical explanation and expert assistance.

The show continues on Saturday, July 25th, with the focus shifting to the sun between 12:00 and 16:00. Using telescopes fitted with certified filters and a dedicated solar telescope, visitors will be able to safely observe the photosphere and chromosphere, identifying phenomena such as sunspots, prominences, and granulation. A contribution of €5.00 per person is required for solar observation.

Logistics and transport:
Due to the location of the refuge, a shuttle service is provided for evening events, departing from Cianzopè (along the SS 48, approximately 1.5 km before the 5 Torri chairlift when coming from Cortina). Transport is available from 6:30 pm, subject to reservation, and costs €30.00 per person (return).

Reservations:
To ensure the shuttle service runs smoothly and tables are available, reservations are required. Please contact Rifugio Averau directly on 0436 4660.

All astronomical activities are subject to weather conditions.
